Dental Implants

Does dental implant surgery hurt?

Dental implant surgery is usually performed with local anesthesia to numb the treatment area. Some soreness, swelling or bruising can occur afterward, and recovery varies with the procedure and the individual. Discuss dental anxiety, pain control and any sedation options before treatment; suitability and availability need confirmation. Ask for written recovery instructions and guidance on when to contact the clinic. Read about our dental implant treatment before requesting an evaluation.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

You may be a candidate if you have missing teeth and your oral and general health allow implant treatment. An evaluation considers your jawbone, gums, medical history, medications and ability to maintain daily oral hygiene. Smoking and certain health conditions can affect healing and treatment planning. Having a risk factor does not automatically determine the answer; it requires an individual assessment. Learn more about dental implants in Puerto Vallarta before requesting an evaluation.

What examinations and records are needed before implant treatment?

Implant planning requires an examination and appropriate imaging, which may include dental X-rays and a three-dimensional CBCT scan. The dentist decides which studies are necessary after reviewing your situation. International patients can send existing X-rays or CBCT images before traveling for a preliminary assessment. Contact the clinic for secure submission instructions and include relevant medical history, medications and a description of your concerns. Photographs and records can support a preliminary discussion, but they do not replace an in-person examination. Contact our clinic for instructions before ordering new studies.

What are the stages of implant treatment, and how long does healing take?

Treatment generally includes planning, implant placement, healing and attachment of the final tooth or bridge. Osseointegration, the process of integration with the jawbone, typically takes approximately 4–6 months, depending on the patient and treated site. Feeling comfortable does not mean an implant is ready for its final restoration. Extractions, grafting and individual healing may change the sequence or timing. Ask for a written schedule separating surgical and restorative stages, including any temporary teeth. Our dental implant overview provides background for your consultation.

How long do dental implants last, and can they fail?

Dental implants can function for many years, but no implant or restoration is guaranteed to last a lifetime. An implant may fail to integrate or develop problems later, including disease affecting the surrounding tissues. The crown or bridge can also need repair or replacement even when the implant remains stable. Regular care and professional reviews matter. Ask about your individual risk factors and maintenance needs when discussing dental implants.

Will I need a bone graft before dental implants?

Not every dental implant patient needs a bone graft. A graft may be recommended when there is not enough suitable bone to support the planned implant position, based on a clinical examination and imaging. Depending on the area and the amount of bone needed, grafting may be performed before implant placement or during the same procedure. Your evaluation should explain why it is recommended, the alternatives and its effect on cost and timing. Read about dental bone grafting for additional background.

What is the difference between titanium and zirconia dental implants?

Titanium implants are metal implants, while zirconia implants are ceramic implants. The implant material is different from the material of the crown or bridge: a zirconia crown can be attached to a titanium implant. Neither material is universally appropriate for every patient; the choice depends on clinical assessment, the available implant design and the planned restoration. Discuss your options during a dental implant evaluation.

What is a sinus lift, and when is it needed?

A sinus lift increases the available bone height beneath the sinus in the back of the upper jaw when that area needs additional support for implants. It is different from grafting elsewhere in the mouth. Whether implants can be placed at the same appointment or require a later procedure depends on the existing bone and treatment plan. Explore our sinus lift information, then ask how your imaging findings affect the recommendation.

Full-Arch Treatments: All-on-4, All-on-6 and 3-on-6

How much does All-on-4 cost in Puerto Vallarta?

All-on-4 costs $10,800 USD per arch: $5,400 for surgery + $5,400 for the definitive zirconia restoration. Provisional teeth and multi-unit abutments are included. Extractions, bone grafts and sinus lifts are additional when needed.

How much does All-on-6 cost in Puerto Vallarta?

All-on-6 costs $11,900 USD per arch: $6,500 for surgery + $5,400 for the definitive zirconia restoration. Provisional teeth and multi-unit abutments are included. Extractions, bone grafts and sinus lifts are additional when needed.

What is the difference between All-on-4 and All-on-6?

All-on-4 uses four implants to support a full-arch restoration; All-on-6 uses six. The appropriate design depends on bone availability, implant positions, bite forces and the planned restoration. More implants do not automatically make one option best for every patient. Both require careful assessment and ongoing care. Compare our All-on-4 treatment and All-on-6 treatment, and ask which approach fits your clinical needs and why.

How does 3-on-6 differ from an All-on-6 full-arch bridge?

The 3-on-6 treatment described by our clinic uses three separate bridges supported by six implants, rather than one connected full-arch bridge. The distinction is the restoration’s design, not simply the number of implants. Bone, gum contours, bite and the space available for the restorations must be evaluated before choosing this approach. It is not automatically suitable for every patient missing a full arch. Explore our 3-on-6 treatment to discuss this option during your evaluation.

Will my implant-supported teeth be fixed or removable?

Implant-supported teeth can be fixed or removable, depending on the restoration selected. A fixed bridge stays in your mouth and is removed by a dental professional when necessary. A removable implant-retained denture is designed for you to take out for cleaning. These options differ in design and daily care, so your estimate should clearly name the proposed restoration. Read about snap-on dentures if you would like to compare a removable option with a fixed bridge.

Can I get teeth in one day, or will I need temporary teeth?

Some patients can receive a fixed temporary bridge soon after implant surgery, but this requires suitable conditions, including adequate implant stability. “Teeth in one day” does not mean the implants have healed or that the final restoration is complete. Other patients need a removable temporary denture or a different schedule. Confirm the temporary option, its cost and your eating restrictions before treatment. Explore our All-on-4 treatment and ask whether immediate loading is appropriate for you.

What materials can be used for the final full-arch teeth?

Full-arch restorations can use different materials and constructions, including zirconia or resin-based teeth with a supporting framework. The proposed material should be identified in your written treatment plan, separately from the temporary restoration. Ask about appearance, cleaning access, wear, repair options and the reason for the recommendation. There is no universally best material for every bite or design. Our All-on-4 treatment page introduces some of the restorative options to discuss during your evaluation.

How do I clean and maintain a full-arch implant restoration?

Full-arch implant restorations need daily cleaning around the implants and beneath the replacement teeth, plus professional maintenance. The appropriate brushes, flossing aids or other tools depend on the shape of your restoration and your ability to reach those areas. Ask for a demonstration using your own prosthesis and an individualized review schedule. A fixed bridge does not automatically require removal at every cleaning visit; the dentist decides when removal is necessary for assessment, treatment or maintenance.

If a tooth chips or breaks, must the whole bridge be replaced?

No—not every chip or broken tooth requires replacement of the entire bridge. Treatment depends on the material, restoration design, location of the damage and condition of the underlying structure. Some problems can be repaired; others require replacement of a component or the complete restoration. A clinical assessment is needed to decide safely. Contact the clinic for instructions if you notice damage, and do not attempt to glue or modify the restoration yourself.

Dental Crowns and Veneers

What is the difference between a dental crown and a veneer?

A crown covers most or all of the visible part of a tooth, while a veneer primarily covers its front surface. Crowns may help restore teeth with substantial damage; veneers can address selected concerns about shape, color or appearance. The choice depends on the remaining tooth structure, bite and oral health. Preparation can involve irreversible removal of tooth material. Compare dental crowns and dental veneers before discussing the most appropriate option.

Which materials are suitable for crowns and veneers?

The material should be chosen for the tooth and restoration, rather than appearance alone. Our crown page discusses zirconia and lithium-disilicate ceramic options, while veneer treatment requires its own assessment of suitable materials. Ask how the proposed choice relates to your bite, desired shade and remaining tooth structure. Also confirm whether the quoted material applies to the final restoration. Review our crown material information and bring any questions to your consultation.

Should my natural teeth be treated before considering implants or veneers?

Your natural teeth should be evaluated before deciding on extractions or cosmetic treatment. The examination helps determine which teeth can be restored, whether gum disease or decay needs treatment, and which options fit your needs. Veneers do not replace treatment for underlying disease, and implants are not a reason to remove a tooth that can appropriately be retained. Ask for an explanation of the alternatives, expected limitations and long-term maintenance before agreeing to irreversible treatment.

How many appointments will I need for crowns or veneers?

The number of appointments depends on the teeth involved, the restoration type and whether other treatment is needed first. Planning may include examination, preparation, impressions or scanning, temporary restorations, fitting and adjustments. Ask for a schedule that allows time to assess comfort, appearance and your bite before you leave Puerto Vallarta. Do not assume every case can be completed during a short vacation. Explore our veneer treatment information and request timing for your specific case.

Costs and Treatment Estimates

How much do dental implants cost in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico?

At International Dental Center PV, titanium dental implant placement is $1,100 USD, and the abutment with zirconia crown is $800 USD, for an approximate complete treatment cost of $1,900 USD. Additional procedures, such as bone grafting or a sinus lift, may change the final cost when clinically necessary. Implant placement and the restorative phase are separate stages; full-arch treatment has a different scope and price. Review our dental price information and request an itemized estimate based on your dental records and evaluation.

How should I compare a Mexico treatment quote with one from the US or Canada?

Compare the complete treatment plan, not just the advertised implant fee. Check the procedures, materials, implants, abutments, temporary and final teeth, imaging, anesthesia and follow-up included in each quote. Add travel, accommodation, return visits and any excluded procedures. Confirm whether amounts are in USD, CAD or MXN before comparing totals. Ask for written exclusions and payment terms. Our dental price information can help you prepare questions, but your itemized estimate should guide your decision.

Could additional procedures change my treatment cost?

Yes, additional clinical findings can change the recommended treatment and total cost. Examples may include extractions, management of existing dental disease, bone grafting or a sinus lift when indicated. These are possibilities, not procedures every implant patient needs. Ask which items are confirmed, which remain provisional and how any proposed change will be explained and authorized. A clear written plan helps you understand the reason for each charge before treatment proceeds.

Can I pay by treatment stage, and which payment methods are accepted?

International Dental Center PV lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP among its accepted payment options. Confirm which method is available for your individual treatment, accepted currencies and payment schedule before traveling or sending funds. For treatment with separate surgical and restorative stages, ask which amounts are due at each stage and whether a deposit is required. Also confirm accepted currencies, transaction fees, transfer instructions and cancellation terms in writing. A staged treatment schedule does not automatically mean financing is available. Contact our team for the current payment arrangements that apply to your estimate.

Can I use my US or Canadian dental insurance?

Coverage for dental treatment in Mexico depends on your insurer and specific plan; reimbursement should not be assumed. Before treatment, ask your insurer about out-of-country benefits, preauthorization requirements and claim documentation. Separately, confirm with the clinic whether payment is collected directly from you and which records can be provided for a claim. An estimate or receipt does not guarantee reimbursement. Contact our clinic to clarify the paperwork you need before making travel plans.

Traveling to Puerto Vallarta

How many trips will I need for dental implants or full-arch treatment?

Dental implant and full-arch treatment normally may require two trips to Puerto Vallarta: one for surgery and another for the final restoration after healing. The exact number depends on your treatment plan and clinical progress. Some patients need additional visits for grafting, checks or adjustments, so two trips should not be treated as a guarantee. Review our All-on-4 treatment overview, then request a personalized outline of each trip and the conditions for moving to the next stage.

How long should I stay in Puerto Vallarta for treatment?

For many treatment stages, international patients should plan approximately 5–7 days per visit to Puerto Vallarta, depending on the procedure. Your stay must allow time for treatment and necessary reviews before departure. Complex procedures or restorative visits may require a different schedule, which the clinic must confirm for your individual case. Ask when you should arrive, when your final check is expected and when the dentist anticipates you can travel. Confirm those details before purchasing nonrefundable tickets.

Are accommodation and airport transfers included?

Treatments of $5,000 USD or more include 6 nights and 7 days of accommodation on each treatment trip, subject to availability, plus airport–accommodation–airport transfers on each trip. Additional nights cost $80 USD per night. For treatments under $5,000 USD, accommodation costs $80 USD per night. Confirm your travel dates with the clinic before booking. View accommodation and packages.

Is it safe to get dental implants in Mexico, and how should I choose a clinic?

Safety depends on the treating team, facility, treatment plan and follow-up—not the country or price alone. Before deciding, verify the treating dentist’s qualifications and ask about infection control, the proposed implant system, risks, alternatives and arrangements for complications. Request records and a written aftercare plan, including what happens when you return home. Contact our clinic with these questions. Patient reviews offer personal perspectives but do not guarantee clinical quality or your outcome.

Appointments and Aftercare

How do I request an appointment or an initial consultation?

Use our Contact Us page, send an SMS to +52 322 111 6391, or message us on WhatsApp at +52 56 6049 2521. Include your name, main concern, preferred dates and whether you already have dental images. Ask about a preliminary video consultation if helpful; availability must be confirmed. Your appointment is booked only after the clinic confirms the date and time, and remote discussions do not replace a clinical examination.

What follow-up will I need after returning home?

Your follow-up should be planned before you leave, including local dental care when needed and any return visits to Puerto Vallarta. Ask for written aftercare instructions, relevant treatment records and details of your implant system if implants were placed. Clarify how to report concerns and who will assess problems in person. Remote communication can support follow-up but cannot replace every examination. Also confirm responsibility for local treatment, repairs and travel expenses rather than assuming those costs are covered.

What should I do if I develop a complication after treatment?

Contact the treating clinic promptly about increasing pain, swelling, fever, a loose restoration or another unexpected change. Explain when it started and seek a local dental assessment if you cannot be seen promptly in Puerto Vallarta. Difficulty breathing or swallowing, or severe spreading swelling, requires immediate emergency care wherever you are; do not wait for a message reply or a return flight. Keep your treatment records available to help the clinician assessing you.

3-on-6: price and inclusions

3-on-6 costs $12,000 USD per arch: surgery $6,500 + three definitive zirconia bridges $5,500. Provisional teeth and abutments are included. Extractions, bone grafts and sinus lifts are charged separately when needed.

Three-year treatment warranty

Our three-year warranty covers implant failures and fractures of the prosthesis, with covered treatment provided at the clinic at no charge. The patient pays for flights, accommodation and transfers for warranty visits.

To maintain coverage, attend your first check-up and cleaning at 6 months, then once a year. These visits may be performed by your local dentist; keep proof of each visit. Damage caused by impact, accidents or improper use is excluded. If a night guard is prescribed for bruxism, wearing it is required to maintain coverage. Contact the clinic to arrange assessment of a warranty concern.

Send your studies before traveling

Send existing X-rays, dental photographs and a CBCT download link via WhatsApp +52 56 6049 2521 or dralberto@dentalcenterpv.com. Include your name, main concern and preferred travel dates.
